Graduate thesis, 2021. The techniques I used were mixed media, ink, paper, pen, and digital modifications.
I drew inspiration from the history of illustration. I was also inspired by Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. As a result, I decided to create my own deck of playing cards. This was my graduation thesis project in 2021 at the Faculty of Design.
I was particularly fascinated by the impact of the printing press on the mass production of book illustrations. Later, the Industrial Revolution further refined illustration. This led to its division into distinct branches. These branches ranged from scientific illustrations to children’s picture books. But, my greatest inspiration came from the original illustrations in the first edition of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, drawn by John Tenniel.
In my thesis, I made my own visual interpretation of the story. Then I applied it to a newly designed set of Tapp Tarock cards. Here’s a glimpse of my project — a custom-designed deck of playing cards inspired by Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland:
